Dans til folket: a pretty / shitty study
a pretty/shitty study is created on-site from memory, as a study for a larger pro- ject about nostalgia and its opposite in technology. Iver, Marit and Pål
Asle have followed a selection of locals to their favourite spot in Bergen. This will be recorded, twisted into a choreography and recorded again. The presentation will last for 30 minutes and will be shown every hour from 12:00 to 16:00. The cho- reography will draw a subjective, individualistic and nostalgic picture of Bergen, both site specific and universal at the same time.
Iver Findlay is a theatre and video artist and previous member of American thea- tre companies such as Collapsable Giraffe, Wooster Group and Radiohole. Marit Sandsmark is a Stavanger-based choreographer and artist who has, among other things, collaborated with Diane Madden and worked with Molitrix and Rogaland Theatre. She was awarded the title Artist of the Year in Stavanger in 2006. Pål Asle Pettersen is a musician with a number of releases to his name. He is one of the people behind Zang:records that primarily releases abstract electronic music. The performance is co-produced by BIT Teatergarasjen.
Dans Til Folket – Dance to the People – a dogma-dance project – is a thinly veiled attempt at borrowing from the concept revealed as Dogma 95 at the Cannes film festival in 1995, in order to focus on the free and non-commercial dance in Norway today.
Dance to the people focuses on the good story told in real-time, at unexpected places, by chal- lenging the way people think about dance productions, and by putting emphasis on different, sometimes unexpected premises for the interaction between artist and audience.
